In celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the original Tamagotchi, Bandai released several waves of classic Tamagotchi toys. They started with the Tamagotchi Chibi/Mini, then followed up with re-releases of the original P1 and P2 toys. Functionally, these new releases are identical to their original counterparts, with the only variations being new battery types and some new shell designs. |
Kaette Kita! Chibi Tamagotchi, released in April 2017, is the follow-up to the original Chibi Tamagotchi, known as the Tamagotchi Mini in English. This new set of pint-sized Tamas features new characters and features, and help continue the 20th anniversary celebration. The six series 1 shell colors match the original six shells of the P1 when it was first released in Japan in 1996. |
Shortly after the release of the anniversary Chibi Tamagotchi, Bandai released a set of Japan-exclusive P1 shells that matched the original first six shells released in 1996. Other countries are scheduled to receive a wave of eight P1 Tamagotchi units in fall 2018 featuring four classic shells and four all-new designs. Bandai also released a San Diego Comic Con exclusive shell at their booth. |
